Let’s be real: we all knew that the Absolute Batman series was going to be phenomenal. Scott Snyder was tasked with finding a new (but still somewhat familiar) take on the beloved hero, and he nailed it.
Review: Phoenix Vol. 1: Orbital Resonance
Of course, Jean Grey is getting a solo series during Marvel’s From the Ashes. It would be strange if she didn’t, right? Phoenix Vol. 1 really lets Jean/Phoenix off the leash, sending her off into the larger universe, and boy, are the stakes high.
Manga Monday: Magic Knight Rayearth I Vol. 1
So, apparently, Magic Knight Rayearth I Vol. 1 is getting republished, so now seemed like the perfect time to give the series a try! I know I’m a decade late to this one; please don’t judge me too harshly.
Manga Monday: Re:Anima Vol. 1
Re:Anima Vol. 1 is an interesting start to a new series. It has unique hazards, a decimated planet, and determined characters. While it isn’t my favorite story out there, I’ll be the first to say that it has a lot of potential.
Manga Monday: Sheltering Eaves Vol. 1
Sheltering Eaves Vol. 1 is a sweet and endearing story about two childhood friends figuring out where they stand with one another. It’s a classic slow-burn friends-to-lovers romance with a few unique twists.
Manga Monday: Love, That’s an Understatement Vol. 1
Oh wow! Love, That's an Understatement Vol. 1 is such a shockingly sweet story, but not for the reasons you might expect. The story is all about two characters trying to take care of one another and make things right. It's cute, quirky, and sweet.
Manga Monday: Kaina of the Great Snow Sea Vol. 1
I wanted to love Kaina of the Great Snow Sea Vol. 1. The title and cover made it look like this story would be my ally. While I agree it has a lot of potential, it failed to suck me in before I finished the first volume.
Manga Monday: King in Limbo Omnibus 1
Oh, I really like the premise of King in Limbo Omnibus 1. Sleeping sickness, dream divers, desperate characters, it’s got a bit of everything. This series is absolutely worth reading if you ask me.
Manga Monday: Kusunoki’s Flunking Her High School Glow-Up Vol. 1
Hooray, it's time for another manga with a long title! But seriously, Kusunoki's Flunking Her High School Glow-Up Vol. 1 is not what I expected. First, there's the obvious - I thought that Kusunoki would have been the main POV (the title and cover indicate that), but it's actually Keisuke Shizuki.
Review: Dawn of X Vol. 1
As an anthology, Dawn of X Vol. 1 collects six issues, ranging across different series. Naturally, this means that while there’s (probably) something for everyone, not all of it is going to hit. I can already tell there will be subplots I love, and some subplots I’ll be happy to get through.
