I picked up Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees on an impulse. The description and cover are so incongruous (intentionally so) that I knew it was worth reading. I was not disappointed. That said, don't dive into this book without understanding that you WILL be getting a woodland version of Dexter.
Okay, so there was a lot that drew me to this series. First, the dystopian vibes intertwined with a fantasy setting. Second, the author! I love G. Willow Wilson (famous for Ms. Marvel), so I had pretty high hopes for her new fantasy series.
Oh! I don't know why, but I was not expecting the ice age to be where Earthdivers went next. I suppose it makes sense, but I needed to read the whole of Earthdivers Vol. 2 for it to really hit home.
Samurai Jack has long been a fan favorite, so it shouldn't be surprising that he's getting a comic miniseries again. In Samurai Jack Lost Worlds, Jack is still trying to find his way back home. But the journey, as always, will prove to be difficult and intriguing.
It's been a minute since I dove into a retro science fiction tale, and Arca seemed like the obvious choice. It blends one of my favorite genres with my love of graphic novels. I mean, what more could a girl ask for?
Marvel Action: Chillers #3 will bring more heroes into the fray as this chilling (and fun) tale continues. This is the second to last issue of the series, but at least it has been a fun ride up until now.
Marvel Action: Chillers #2 officially brings us to the halfway mark of this series, leaving us only two more adventures. On the bright side, it is a series that has brought several surprise team-ups as more heroes come into the fray.
I've come to a conclusion: I will pretty much read anything that my favorite authors write. That officially includes Stephen Graham Jones. I fell in love with his work when The Only Good Indians was released, and that isn't going to change anytime soon.
Dark Spaces: Wildfire #1 is the first issue in a new series by Scott Snyder and Hayden Sherman, so I had to give it a try! Set during the Arroyo Fire, this series covers a group of inmate firefighters – and the dangers (plus temptations) they will face alongside the smoke and ash.
Earthdivers #1 is the start of a brand new series by IDW. It's written by Stephen Graham Jones – one of the best horror authors around. So you just know this series will hit you right in the feels and then some. The series begins in the year 2112, with the world in ruins. As it turns out, the scientists may have been right when they warned us about those rising oceans. Whoops. One group of people may have a solution to everything gone wrong – they just have to go back in time and kill Christopher Columbus.
