It’s a new era for the X-Men, and only time will tell if that’s for the best. That said, I’m happy to see that Scott is in charge of at least one of the X-Men teams. His team feels a little like coming back home for the X-Men. There are new twists, obviously, but there always will be.
Whew. I won't lie: Captain Marvel Vol. 10 is an intense read. In truth, the entire Revenge of the Brood arc has been one heavy-hitting moment to the next. Kelly Thompson has always been good about that – creating an emotional arc that ties back to Carol's past.
Captain Marvel Vol. 9 contains a single-issue plot and the beginning of a new plot arc; Revenge of the Brood.
The Revenge of the Brood continues ever onward. Captain Marvel and crew started this mission in an attempt to save Rogue and Binary. But in true fashion, the battle has turned, and now they're fighting on a whole different scale.
Despite their best efforts, Binary is still very much trapped by The Brood. Carol Danvers, Jessica Drew, Jennifer Takeda, and several X-Men are on a quest to save her – and Rogue. However, The Brood are putting up more resistance than expected, causing Jennifer Takeda, aka Hazmat, to take extreme measures.
Onward with the Revenge of the Brood in Captain Marvel #45. Though, is anyone else wondering what precisely they're getting revenge on? After all, they're supposedly in a moment of peace. Granted, we all knew that wasn't going to last.
The Revenge of the Brood (part two) continues in Captain Marvel #44. This arc is killing it, if I may say so. I know, I know – I'm biased. But I'm happy to see so many of my favorite characters together (Spider-Woman, Hazmat, Psylocke, Polaris, Gambit, must I go on?).
Annnnd we're off! By that, I mean it's time to dive into a new plot arc in Captain Marvel #43. As the title suggests (Revenge of the Brood), this is likely to be an intense arc, and I cannot wait to see how it plays out.
It's hard to ignore a title like The Last of the Marvels. It promises many things – a peek at other characters with the Marvel moniker. A threat. And even...hope? It's hard to explain how this title made me feel; mere words don't feel like enough.
