Summary:
Long have the X-Men fought for – and against – humanity. They had more than their fair share of losses, so it’s understandable that they decided it was time for a change. Enter Krakoa. Now everything seems perfect.
Enter the new squad of heroes, for missions must be run for the sake of all mutant-kind. How transparent these missions are may be up for debate, but their importance must be recognized.
Review:
Once again, X-Men Vol. 2 delivers on the promises made by this new series. Hickman has brought new life to the X-Men, and I am all sorts of here for it. I know it won’t last (no comic arc does, much as we’d like that to be untrue), but I will enjoy it while I binge it.
There are parts that I adore about X-Men Vol. 2 and parts that I feel overwhelmed by. Ironically, it’s almost two sides of the same coin. I love how many stories are being told, sometimes simultaneously. This gives us a chance to see so (SO) many different X-Men. But that can also make it overwhelming.
The jumping between different arcs/characters/stories gives the whole volume (series, really) an episodic vibe. That is either going to work or fail, depending on each reader. I don’t mind it, but I did have to remind myself what was going on a few times.
