Summary:
Long have the X-Men fought for – and against – humanity. They had more than their fair share of losses, so it’s understandable that they decided it was time for a change. Enter Krakoa. Now everything seems perfect.
Enter the new squad of heroes, for missions must be run for the sake of all mutant-kind. How transparent these missions are may be up for debate, but their importance must be recognized.
Review:
Once again, there’s so much going on in X-Men Vol. 3 that it’s borderline overwhelming. Thankfully, the writing and characters are so powerful that this isn’t off-putting. Additionally, it ensures a plot for everyone (how could there not be?!).
That said, I don’t think I enjoyed X-Men Vol. 3 quite as much as the second volume. This may be because I read them back to back. The overall pacing in this volume felt more…rushed? Like Hickman could see the deadline coming up and still had so much more of the story to tell.
If so, that’s a shame. I loved this entire arc, so the idea of having to rush it is heartbreaking. It should have been allowed to have the time needed to flourish. Either way, the storytelling style in this volume will be a bit controversial. Not everyone enjoys vignette-style storytelling (though it does work here – I just wish they were slightly longer).
