Summary:
Junji Ito is a cat owner, or rather, a new cat owner. That takes some changes and getting used to, as they’re quick to learn. While Junji Ito may need some time to adjust to his new cat, his fiancée, A-ko, is already head over heels for these adorable feline companions.
Enter Mu, a Norwegian forest cat, and Yon, a white and black cat with a terrifying expression, more often than not.
Review:
Junji Ito is a horror manga artist, which explains why the eyes in Junji Ito’s Cat Diary: Yon & Mu are pure nightmare fuel. Seriously, I couldn’t get over them, and that kept me from getting too invested in the cat-themed hilarity. WHy? I kept waiting for something to go horrifically wrong.
Junji Ito’s Cat Diary: Yon & Mu is largely based on true events, as Junji Ito and his fiancée move in together, bringing two cats along for the ride. Anybody who has ever gone through this phase in life knows that there’s a bit of a transition, and that can lead to comical moments.
That comedy and chaos can intensify, say, if you’re not a cat person who just moved in with two cats. Oops. On the bright side, the series did nail that creepy terror that an upset cat can infuse into the room.
