I have a lot of complicated feelings about Captain Marvel Vol. 2. I didn't hate it, but I also feel like I could have loved it more. This is a strange place for me to be in, as I'm pretty much a huge Captain Marvel fangirl.
Carol Danvers, Hazmat, Spider-Woman, and several X-Men are dealing with a Brood attack. They cannot leave until they safely recover their two missing allies (Binary and Rogue). But things are about to get a whole lot worse than they feared. Given Carol's experience with the Brood, this is saying something...
You may have heard the news, and if you haven't, I'm sorry to be the one breaking this to you; Kelly Thompson is officially leaving Captain Marvel. Her last issue will be this June with Captain Marvel #50.
Onward with the Revenge of the Brood in Captain Marvel #45. Though, is anyone else wondering what precisely they're getting revenge on? After all, they're supposedly in a moment of peace. Granted, we all knew that wasn't going to last.
The Revenge of the Brood (part two) continues in Captain Marvel #44. This arc is killing it, if I may say so. I know, I know – I'm biased. But I'm happy to see so many of my favorite characters together (Spider-Woman, Hazmat, Psylocke, Polaris, Gambit, must I go on?).
One of the many things I love about long-running comic series is that they understand the value of palette cleansers. Captain Marvel #42 is set between arcs, meaning it's a little lighter and much less intense than other plots. In other words, it's a bit of a break in all the chaos that is Captain Marvel's story.
Carol Danvers' time in a twisted future continues in Captain Marvel #26. Thanks to magic (literally), Captain Marvel has found herself transported to the very same future that Captain Marvel: The End portrayed.
This strange battle for the future continues in Captain Marvel #25. She may not know the whole story of why she is here or what happened to her fellow heroes. But that won't stop her from standing up for those who survived.
Carol Danvers' unwilling adventure back into the future continues in Captain Marvel #24. While she may not know how it happened, she is once again back into the world that Captain Marvel: The End introduced.
Carol Danvers' series is once again bringing her to the events in 'The End' in Captain Marvel #23. It seems that for heroes like Carol, there really is no such thing as a break or a vacation, for that matter.
