The Hunt Continues in Something Is Killing the Children #6
Something Is Killing the Children #6 starts an all-new plot arc titled ‘The House of Slaughter.’ For fans following the series, that alone should give us a good idea of what will come. And that’s a pretty exciting fact.
This whole series is set in a world where monsters are real. They do all the horrible things campfire stories say, from living in caves to hunting and eating children. But it’s all so much worse than that.
That’s where Eric Slaughter comes into play. She’s the infamous monster hunter. Last we saw, she had saved the day at great cost. Now we’re left wondering what she’ll do to pick up the pieces. And what her next task will be.
Writing
After the events of Something Is Killing the Children #5, many fans (myself included) were extremely curious to see what the series would go next. Would Erica’s hunt continue? Or would the perspective shift?
After reading Something Is Killing the Children #6, some answers have become clear. And it is still very much the dark and chilling series that fans have come to love. So do not worry on that front.
James Tynion IV has written something disturbing here as he once again sets the scene for what will come. As it turns out, monster hunting is usually not that simple. Somehow, that fact isn’t as surprising as it should be.
This issue is split into several perspectives, all carefully doled out so that we can only see hints of what is happening at any location at any given time. It’s all about carefully building the tension while slowly revealing the truth. And that’s something this series excels in.
Art
Something Is Killing the Children #6 is full of various artwork, all of which perfectly match the tone of what is happening on the pages. With each setting change comes a change in tones and colors – subtle cues for how we should feel and interpret information.
That may sound subtle, but it creates quite the reading experience. All of the details add up to create this dramatic and chilling read. The more graphic nature of the clashes only enhances that feeling.
Werther Dell’Edera was the lead artist for this issue, working alongside Miguel Muerto for colors and Andworld Design for the lettering. Together, they’ve portrayed a shifting plot, showing us the calm before the storm. Or that is how they have made us feel, at any rate.
Conclusion
Something Is Killing the Children #6 was a chilling and thrilling read. It’s once again setting the scene for something much larger than life. If the past event is anything to go by, you just know how big and bad it will get before it’s resolved. And I, for one, am very much looking forward to seeing all that happen.
