Summary:
Melphiera Marchalrayd has a very particular sense of taste. By that, we mean she enjoys monster meat. Most people would be terrified of the idea of eating monsters, but Melphiera understands that there is a way to make monster meat safe for consumption.
Unfortunately, it’s rather difficult to find a husband when you have a reputation for eating monsters. Enter the “Blood-Mad Duke” of Galbraith. He’s known to be harsh and aloof, but he may be about to meet his match.
Review:
Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! Has got to be one of the more unique series I’ve read (side note: Yes, I’ve heard of Delicious in Dungeons, it’s on my list). I love the strange balance this series has struck between fantasy, food, monsters, and romance.
The romantic (sub)plot is progressing much faster than I expected. Then again, The Duke did announce his intentions in the first volume, didn’t he? So I shouldn’t be surprised (I think it’s more because I don’t read many Regency romances).
Once again, we get a deep dive into the preparation of monster meat. It doesn’t go so far that animal lovers will be upset (just don’t think about it too much—that’s what I did), and it does have its funny moments.
There were a few surprises that may become subplots in the future. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I’m not sure I love this series enough to keep reading it (my library doesn’t have it, so I had to buy this volume), but we’ll see.
