WOTN Review: Wasted Space #11 (Vault Comics)

No Rest for the Wicked in Wasted Space

After a bit of a break, the creative team behind Wasted Space is ready to give us the latest installment in the series. Wasted Space  starts a whole note plot arc for Billy and his band of misfits. But if we know anything about this crew – whatever adventure they get into next will be chaotic.

Wasted Space is a dramatic and warped space epic for those new to the series. It’s not like any other comic out there. It isn’t afraid to put its characters through hell, push them to the limits, or make them doubt themselves. It also gets a little crazy sometimes – in the best of ways.

Wasted Space  brings all of the best elements within the series to the forefront. So get ready for one heck of a ride.

Writing

All right, I’m going to be upfront with you here. The writing in Wasted Space  is perhaps the best in the entire series. Think of every emotion you can expect a comic to elicit from you. Wasted Space  does it all. And it probably invented a new feeling or two in the process. Michael Moreci has outdone himself this time.

There were ups and downs all over the place in this issue – but they were all well thought out. Our characters have seen some things, which is a trend that won’t change anytime soon. It’s something fans have come to expect from the series, actually.

The slightly inane humor felt stronger in this issue as well. Between that, the dry humor, and the emotional roller coaster Billy has been sent on…it was one memorable issue. It’s good to see the series back and starting a new plot. I’m already looking forward to the next issue!

Art

Wasted Space  does not disappoint in the art department either. I’ve always enjoyed the art style within Wasted Space, and this issue was no exception. I especially loved the colors on the cover for this issue – take a peek, and you’ll see what I mean. It’s not a palette that every series can pull off, but Wasted Space is a special case.

Naturally, some elements are especially worth talking about. Wasted Space  features a lot of action and changes of scenery. Our artistic team did an excellent job on both counts, especially regarding their rendering of movement and explosions.

Hayden Sherman was the lead artist for this issue, with Jason Wordie providing the colors. Together, they’ve created a fascinating set of panels and images. And honestly? Their style couldn’t be better suited to this plot. It’s perfect.

Conclusion

Wasted Space was an issue absolutely worth the wait. Though it has admittedly made me a bit anxious to get my hands on the next issue (come on, Wasted Space !) But that should speak to how much fun this issue was to read.
