Summary:
Just a few months ago, the Ting twins learned that they weren’t fully human. Or human at all, really. Things have changed drastically since then, as they’ve tried to embrace their powers and their unique inheritance.
There’s just one problem: other beings have plans, and they will not wait for the twins to get up to speed. Sure, the twins may have the power to stop it all, but they just learned the hard way that blunt force isn’t always the best option.
Review:
I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty sad that The Night Eaters Vol. 3 is the conclusion to this series. It’s been so good! I love this team (Majorie M. Liu and Sana Takeda are magic, you can’t convince me otherwise).
The Night Eaters is a planned trilogy that has a little bit of everything: family, inheritance, community, brilliant artwork, horrifying little dolls…you name it, it’s probably somewhere in the series. Obviously, I fell head over heels within the first few pages, and I hate having to say goodbye now.
The Night Eaters Vol. 3 brings the story full circle, pushing the twins into a position to truly accept themselves for who and what they are. There are many (many) elements that go into that, but I’m not going to list them all out. I will say that I loved the emotional impact of this side of the story.
To say that the artwork in this series is stunning would be the understatement of the century. There’s so much detail and vibrance in Sana Takeda’s art that I could spend hours gushing about it. I particularly love the textures, colors, and shading.
The ending is perfect. It’s exactly what the fans and characters deserved. I’m not going to pretend that I expected that ending, but it works so well. Still, I’m bummed the series is over. Time for a re-read!
