Summary:
Agatha Christie meets The Great British Baking Show in The Great British Bump-Off. It all begins when Shauna Wickle’s dream finally comes true: she’s been accepted onto her favorite baking show, so now is her time to shine.
There’s just one problem, as a contestant has rather unfortunately wound up dead. Since Shauna knows she wasn’t the one responsible, she’s determined to get to the bottom of this! It’s that or miss her big shot on tele.
Review:
Okay, so I’m a huge fan of John Allison and Max Sarin. I also adore Agatha Christie and the Great British Baking Show, so I was primed to love this series from the start. As such, I might be biased when I say that The Great British Bump-Off was a hilarious read.
The Great British Bump-Off is cooking chaos incarnate, and it was so much fun to read. Think amateur sleuth but in a baking competition setting, and you’ve got the foundation. Now throw in a heap of drama and a lack of interpersonal skills, and suddenly things will become a bit clearer.
This comic is quirky and fun in equal measure. You probably need to really love GBBO to appreciate all the references, but you’ll probably get a laugh even if you just know the basics. I really wish that this series were longer (can you imagine multiple seasons or series of this?), but at least there’s a quilt-themed spin-off I can dive into next.
Highlights:
- Mystery Comedy
- Cozy Mystery
- Kitchen Drama
- GBBO With Crime
