Summary:

Pamela Isley, aka Poison Ivy, has gone through a lot in her life. She was once an aspiring and hopeful scientist, but now she’s more commonly known for her acts of eco-terrorism.

However, Poison Ivy is once again facing a juncture in her life. She may be alive, thanks to the actions of those who care for her, but her life came at a price. She’s no longer the being she used to be, and she feels the loss of those powers keenly.

Review:

Guys, do not sleep on reading Poison Ivy by G. Willow Wilson. This series is everything, and I cannot overstate that fact. If you’re a Poison Ivy fan, this series is pure perfection, breaking down the character and building her back up from the roots.

Poison Ivy has lost much of her powers, and that has sent her spiraling. Most people would do something drastic in return to gain control over their lives. That usually means cutting their hair or something, but not for Poison Ivy. No, she goes big: she tries to protect the planet–from humanity.

There’s a lot to break down from this volume, starting with Poison Ivy’s own mental breakdown. There’s also her situation with Harley, the thing following her, and Poison Ivy’s desperate moves to understand the balance between violence and protection. Spoiler warning: that’s a common theme for the whole series.

Poison Ivy Vol. 1 is visually stunning and unafraid to take Ivy to a dark place. She’s toying with her villainous roots while exploring her literal roots. It’s an interesting coexistence.
