Summary:
Natasha Romanoff, the infamous Black Widow, has seen and survived many strange circumstances. However, it’s safe to say she’s never experienced something quite like this. She woke up one day with no memories of her past, but she’s since led a very happy life.
She has a husband and son. In other words, she has been given something to lose, and that makes her an incredibly dangerous woman. Whoever just messed with her life made a huge mistake.
Review:
Full disclosure: This isn’t my first time reading Black Widow Vol. 1. However, I loved the story and realized I never reviewed it, so here I am! I was happy to give this a second readthrough, and will hopefully do it for the rest of the series as well.
So, obviously, I’m a huge Kelly Thompson fan, so I’m probably a bit biased when I say that this series is fantastic. It’s a new side of Black Widow, but not. She’s happy and has a family, but the core of this beloved character is the same. It’s a fine line to walk, and Thompson did it well.
Black Widow Vol. 1 is full of brilliant artwork (seriously, each panel is a masterpiece), intense writing, and strong character development. There’s also a bit of comic relief, courtesy of Clint Barton and Bucky Barnes.
Most importantly, this series lets the characters be human. Natasha is loving and vulnerable, while still being completely competent at everything necessary to survive. She’s a badass, through and through.
