Summary:

Children have begun to go missing in Archer’s Peak. One child survived, but what he saw was the stuff of nightmares. Most would take his word as the hallucinations of a traumatized child, but Erica Slaughter knows better.

After all, it’s her job to hunt monsters. She knows how to track them, how to mark their victims, and how to take these monsters down before they can continue to slaughter their way through a town.

Review:

Full disclosure, this is my second (or possibly third) time reading through the beginning of Something is Killing the Children. I lost my place at some point, so I figured I’d go back to the beginning, re-read the series until I find my place, and get all caught up.

Whew. This series hits hard. I honestly think it hits hard the second (or third) time reading through, as you pick up new details. Or spot things you had forgotten about. Either way, it really helped to increase the impact, which is already very high.

Something is Killing the Children Vol. 1 is more than a spooky story. It takes the things of our childhood nightmares and makes them real, in brutal and gory fashion. The artwork alone makes this story unforgettable, and I’m not just talking about the gore. The way the monsters and hunters are illustrated is fascinating.

Something is Killing the Children Vol. 1 is the perfect read for horror fans. So if horror isn’t your cup of tea, the odds are good that you’ll find what’s inside a bit too much.
