Summary:
Nathan’s story is not unique. He just turned thirty and yet feels like he’s gone nowhere in life, unless you count debt. However, one happenstance moment will officially put his life on a very different path.
This is because Nathan discovered RADIANT, a cosmic power that can change his fate, give him power, and also put him at great risk, all in one fell swoop. Naturally, he’s not the only one to stumble across these powers, adding to the complications.
Review:
Radiant Black is another series I’ve been meaning to pick up for years, but hey, at least I’m only like, four or five years behind on this one! But seriously, I’m glad I finally sat down and gave this one a try.
I knew Radiant Black was going to tell a different superhero story, so I tried to approach this without any real expectations. Despite that, Radiant Black Vol. 1 still managed to surprise me.
Some surprises were good, while others were, let’s just say muddy? We didn’t get a lot of time to understand or appreciate most of the primary characters in this tale, and that includes Nathan. The pacing keeps everything flashing forward, sometimes before we’ve had a chance to digest what just happened.
There are some revelations and twists in Radiant Black Vol. 1 that I was not prepared for. Guess I didn’t do a good enough job erasing any expectations? Or maybe it’s the opposite, I’m not sure.
Radiant Black Vol. 1 didn’t read like your typical superhero story, and I’m both looking forward to and dreading the next installment in the series. Fortunately, because I’m behind, I don’t have to wait.
