Summary:
There’s a new threat on the horizon, and only Forge can see it. While the rest of the mutants are focused on recovering from the fall of Krakoa, Forge can see the writing on the wall. If he wants to keep the world safe, he’ll have to assemble a secret team to help him achieve his goals.
Forge’s new team, dubbed the X-Force, will consist of Sage, Rachel Summers, Betsy Braddock, and Surge. Though the latter was a surprise addition to the team. Together, they’re going to track threats across the planet, trying to stop them before they spiral out of control.
Review:
While X-Force was not my favorite of the six original From the Ashes series, I don’t think it deserved to get canceled. I was enjoying learning about different characters, and X-Force Vol. 2 really reminded me of that fact. The creative team did a great job of rushing to give us the finale we deserved, and I’m sad we missed out on any of it. Especially if it had more Sage content.
X-Force Vol. 2 neatly wraps up everything Forge has been working on, with a few complications along the way. One thing I will say is that X-Force Vol. 2 really opened my eyes to how far down the rabbit hole Sage’s abilities can go. I feel like that had never been highlighted before.
La Diabla is an okay villain. She’s interesting, but I’m sure her threat/story would have made a lot more sense had the story been given the proper time to cook. Likewise, the final conflict brought at least one unexpected arc full circle. It had been a sticking point for me, so it was refreshing to see that get some resolution.
Overall, X-Force Vol. 2 was a decent read. I’m bummed the series got canceled, because this volume showcased the potential that’s getting cut short.
