Summary:
Years ago, a group of teenagers discovered something called the Undernet, which is effectively a secret part of the internet. It became their playground, for a time. Then somebody broke it and turned it into a horror show. They thought they had escaped, leaving the Undernet sealed forever.
But what if they were wrong? They are all grown up now, and some have embraced new lives, while others are still haunted by the past. Yet they’re all about to face the reality of the Undernet coming back to life.
Review:
Another series I’m behind on picking up! Please don’t judge me. W0rldtr33 has been on my list since it released, because of the whole cyberpunk aesthetic. If you’ve read (watched, or played) any cyberpunk stories before, you can already see some familiar notes popping up in the description. To be clear, that isn’t a bad thing.
W0rldtr33 Vol. 1 really doesn’t waste any time. This series comes out swinging, throwing readers into the deep end, complete with some intense graphic scenes of death and murder. It isn’t hard to see how dangerous the Undernet can be to human beings, so the point has been made clear.
What is less clear is the relationship the expansive cast of characters has. They all have different feelings and histories, both with each other and the Undernet, but most of the time they’re dancing around the truth or history of it all. It’s a compelling mystery, to say the least.
There’s a lot I could say about the mysteries or the implications this series has dropped so far, but doing so would absolutely be spoilers (for those that haven’t read it). I do love the Hackers and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners comps, and am happy to dive in and continue reading.
Highlights:
- Secret Internet
- Conspiracy THeories
- Cyberpunk Tale
Trigger Warnings:
- Gore & Violence
