Allies and Enemies Galore in Sea of Stars #4
Sea of Stars #4 brings us back to the lost father and son duo in this dark and enthralling series. This is a space story like no other, full of adventures, vibrant space, and, okay, there are some talking aliens. But they defy expectations.
Gil and Kadyn are a father-and-son pair who have faced a most unexpected series of events. Now, both are lost to the other. And both believe the other to be dead. What adventures and terrors can these two find while alone in deep space?
Sea of Stars takes many tales that readers are familiar with, such as a classic father/son story, and turns it all on their heads. You won’t want to miss out on a unique journey.
Writing
Jason Aaron and Dennis Hallum are still working together for this dynamic and gut-wrenching series, and I couldn’t be happier. Together, they’ve brought us a world (well, universe) that is vibrant, dynamic, and shockingly emotional.
And Sea of Stars #4 is no exception to that rule. The latest issue introduces a whole new set of complications for both characters and a few new heartbreaks along the way. I didn’t think I could be more emotionally connected to this tale. But this issue proved that belief wrong.
This issue seamlessly introduces even more complications to an already consuming plot. Now, there’s another player in the field, and her introduction was beautifully done. It did require a bit of backstory on her part. But honestly? They managed to work her story perfectly, not spending too much time digging through the past.
This new set of complications will surely leave fans anxious to get their hands on the fifth issue in the series. I know I’m feeling anxious, at least. And with good reason.
Art
As always, the artwork behind Sea of Stars #4 is absolutely beautiful. It’s a vibrant and glorious universe out there if we believe the artists behind this series. More creatures than ever made it onto these pages, along with dramatic backdrops and other eye-catching moments.
Stephen Green was the lead artist for this issue, with Rico Renzi providing the coloring. Together, these two sure know how to create a striking space scene. Or, more accurately, how to create dozens of these scenes. They’re the sort of images that stick into the reader’s brain – leaving fond memories and a hope for more.
Jared J. Fletcher provided the lettering for this issue and is the master of subtlety. Here, he perfectly showcased the multiple forms of communication through subtle changes. It was easy to tell when a human spoke versus an alien or a machine.
Conclusion
Sea of Stars #4 was another beautiful issue to add to the list of memorable issues. The tale of lost father and son continues while implausibly upping the ante. Readers will be further sucked into what happened to Gil and Kayde and with good reason.
This issue doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, but it’s close enough that readers will anxiously look forward to any future issue they’re willing to give us. And, of course, we find our list of questions growing with every dramatic reveal.
